Congregation History
The Congregation of the Little sisters of St. Francis of Assis is a faith-based institution that was founded in 1982 by His Eminence, Laurian Cardinal Rugambwa, who was the Archbishop of Dar es Salaam from 1969 to 1992. His Eminence Laurian Rugambwa collaboration with Sr. Paulin Bommer of the Order of the Divine Providence of Baldegg – Switzerland. The Congregation continued to grow and was officially launched on 15.08.1999 under His Eminance Polycarp Cardinal Pengo. On 4th October 2012, this institution celebrated her 25th anniversary.
The Congregation uphold the Spirit of Saint Francis of Assis of living the Gospel in penance, Prayer life, minority, Poverty, and fraternal Life in the Community as clarified in our Regulations and constitution.
This Congregation is a Diocesan Right exercising her ministries under the Archbishop of Dar es salaam. On 19th February 2019, The Congregation is registered under Societies Act(CAP. 337 R.E 2002), CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION NUMBER S.A. 21370, with her headquarters in Mbagala – Dar es salaam. Currently we are 113 active members serving in various spiritual and social ministries in 23 communities in Tanzania. We are a multi-tribal Congregation coming from different areas which gives us power to evangelize by making God be known to all people.

The Sacrament of Penance is God’s gift to us so that any sin committed after Baptism can be forgiven. In confession we have the opportunity to repent and recover the grace of friendship with God. It is a holy moment in which we place ourselves in his presence and honestly acknowledge our sins, especially mortal sins.
The most important key to a vibrant prayer life is to understand our spiritual authority in Christ as explained in the Scriptures. The only way to do that is to become intimately familiar with the Bible. Even a few minutes a day in the Word of God will add strength and authority to your prayers.
The word “poverty,” in a Christian context, does not mean the same as in an economic context. The “poverty” that nuns — and many other Christians — strive to live is a detachment from material goods, and not necessarily the complete lack of material goods.
A minority is a group of people of the same race, culture, or religion who live in a place where most of the people around them are of a different race, culture, or religion.
Fraternal life in common, as an expression of the union effected by God’s love, in addition to being an essential witness for evangelization, has great significance for apostolic activity and for its ultimate purpose.
